Accuracy and updates

Everything on this website is made by Oshada Seneviratne and is accurate as far as he knows on the day he writes it. Days pass, information moves, and some of it will quietly become wrong. He updates things when he notices. He does not always notice. Verify anything that matters, the way you would with anything else you found on the internet.

Corrections

When something here turns out to be wrong, it gets fixed in place, and the post carries the day it changed under its title next to the day it went up. If a correction changes what a piece actually argues, the piece says so out loud rather than having the awkward bit edited out at three in the morning. Nothing is ever unpublished to make a mistake disappear. Spot an error and write in. It will be looked at properly, and if you are right it will be fixed and you will be thanked, possibly at excessive length.

Originality and authorship

Every piece of this, words and graphics alike, is written and made by him. No AI-generated posts, no AI-generated art. AI tools may be pointed at a stray comma, a clumsy sentence, or the tedious middle of a task, but the ideas and the execution are his. Nothing here is lifted from anyone. Where someone else’s work turns up, it arrives with credit and a citation attached.

Images and quoted material

Photographs and graphics are his unless a caption admits otherwise. A picture or a passage borrowed from elsewhere appears only where quoting it is fair, credited to whoever made it, with a link to the source if one exists. If you reckon something of yours has ended up here without the credit it is owed, say so and it will be credited properly or taken down, quickly and without an argument.

Licensing

Written content on this website is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 (opens in a new tab) licence: share it, quote it, build on it, as long as you credit him, keep it non-commercial, and pass it on under the same terms. Anything the licence does not reach stays reserved: the graphics, the downloadable files, the site itself. The terms of use say what that means in practice.

AI training

AI does not write the words here, and in return AI companies do not get to train on them. The licence above is what actually says so: training a commercial model is a commercial use, and commercial use is the one thing that licence does not hand over. This is not a grudge. Ask nicely and the answer may well be yes. It has simply never been yes by default.

Search engines and the on-demand browsing tools an assistant uses when somebody asks it about a page are all welcome, and this site’s robots.txt holds the door open for them. Hoovering the whole place up into a training corpus is a different matter. That is a licensing question rather than a crawling one, and it is answered above.

Independence

Nothing here is sponsored, paid for, or written to shift a product. No ads, no affiliate links, and no arrangement anywhere under which something gets a kinder review than it earned. If that ever changes for a particular piece, that piece will say so at the very top, before you have read a word of it. The privacy policy is the other half of the same bargain: with nothing to sell you, this site has no reason whatsoever to watch you.

Content intent

Nothing published here is meant to harm anyone or anything. The goal is to put thoughts, ideas, and work somewhere useful, and to be worth the few minutes you spent. The opinions are entirely his own, and no employer past or present should be blamed for them.

Search engine visibility

This site is visible to search engines and indexed accordingly. A handful of pages are kept out of the index. Error pages, mostly, which nobody wants turning up in a search result. Every one of them is still reachable if you are here and clicking around.

Accessibility

This site is built against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA success criteria: proper colour contrast, semantic HTML landmarks, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support. Motion obeys your system’s reduced-motion setting, and every off-site link announces that it opens in a new tab instead of springing it on you. This is a standing effort rather than a box ticked once and forgotten, so if you hit something that fights your assistive technology, please say so and it will go straight to the top of the list.

Where this sits

This one covers what gets published here and what you may do with it. Two others cover the rest: the privacy policy says what this site does and does not collect about you (the short answer being nothing), and the terms of use set out the terms the site is offered under and what counts as misuse. The three are meant to be read as one document, and none of them contradicts another. If you find a spot where they do, saying so would be doing him a real favour.

This may be updated when practice or regulation changes. Every update is posted here with its date sitting under the title above, so you can always tell how fresh what you are reading is.
